Zusammenfassung

Funktionelle Schmerzen sind im Kindes- und Jugendalter häufig. Es wird eine steigende Prävalenz beobachtet. Dies betrifft Kopf- und Bauchschmerzen ebenso wie muskuloskelettale Schmerzen und Rückenschmerzen. Ausführlich werden epidemiologische Erkenntnisse kritisch beleuchtet. Ein besonderer Schwerpunkt ist die Berücksichtigung einer schmerzbedingten Beeinträchtigung in epidemiologischen Studien.

Eine ältere Frau trinkt regelmäßig Sennesblättertee gegen ihre Verstopfung. Der scheint plötzlich gut zu wirken. Auf Durchfall und Erbrechen folgt allerdings eine Hyponatriämie. Nach deren Korrektur kommt es plötzlich zu progredienten Kognitions- und Verhaltensstörungen.
